The trend of office PCs being replaced with laptops has become a popular way to prevent the theft of office PCs during business breakins, an activity that has affected businesses on a national level. The problem being that laptops are stolen opportunistically 3.2 times faster than ordinary PCs – from the office during working hours, home, back seat of the car, etc. In many instances an employee runs too late to return to the office and his/her laptop is left unprotected, creating an opportunity for theft. We recommend that companies using laptops have at least one of these units at the office to meet this security need.
Ps. Always check with your insurance broker that your laptops are specified and covered for loss/damage whist out of the office as many companies replace office PCs with laptops and forget that the risk cover changes once the IT equipment leaves the office.
